Kahoot!
Available from: https://getkahoot.com (for teachers) and https://kahoot.it/#/ (for students). An app is available for Android also. There is no app available for iPads at the moment, but Kahoot works perfectly on them if you access it through Safari. 
Description:
This is one of the best learner response apps available and allows teachers and students to interact in real time. Begin by setting up a teacher account and creating a Kahoot or quiz. The teacher shares the task with the students by simply sharing a unique 6 digit code with students. This is a quick and easy app to use as students can see their progress and the correct answers etc if the teacher's account is logged in on the interactive whiteboard. This app could be used for a variety of different topics in SESE and there are lots of Kahoots based on different topics that you can import and use immediately. Images and sounds can be added to make the Kahoots even more exciting. Search for 'Ireland' or 'Space' to find some great Kahoots for SESE!

Description:
This app is very child friendly and allows children to create and edit stop motion animations. Children can add titles, credits, sound effects, filters and music to make their video even more exciting. Videos can then be saved to the camera roll and shared.

This is a great app to help develop vocabulary in a fun way. Students can learn nathanna cainte and seanfhocail in a fun and interactive way. You can search for different sayings, as well as play different games to reinforce learning. The app is colourful and attractive and is sure to engage learners in the senior classes.

Description:
This is a fabulous app which allows children to explore different aspects of number. Place Value activities include Place Picker, Ordering Numbers, Largest or Smallest and virtual Dienes blocks. Skip Counter allows children to learn about skip counting and multiples. An interactive number line and number bonds games allow students to learn about addition and subtraction. As well as this, there is an interactive 100 square where students must fill in the missing numbers.

This is a super app which allows children to learn how to spell sight words once they are familiar with hearing and reading them. A sight word is called out and children must find the word within the grid. The game offers hints by showing children where the first letter they need to find a word is. This is a very fun and enjoyable game which can be customised within the settings menu.

Bluster!

Description:
Bluster is a super app which can be used to develop children's knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. The app focuses on rhyming words, prefixes and suffixes, synonyms, word roots, homophones and comparative adjectives. Each game involves choosing three words to match the brief given. Students can play on their own in Single mode, or can choose Team mode or Versus. Versus is a fun way to consolidate learning as students can play against one another at the same time due to the split screen display. Weather "blusters" like tornadoes and blizzards can be used to slow down your opponent as part of the game. This app is suitable for use from 1st to 6th Class.

Description:
This is a superb website which offers access to over 250 free ebooks which can be used on a variety of devices including tablets and laptops. Teachers can create a class login which can be shared with parents so that these books can be enjoyed at home also. There is an option to listen to the stories being read aloud or the children can read them independently. This website features some stories from the Biff, Chip and Kipper series also.

Description:
TeleStory is one of the best FREE apps available at the moment for iPads and Android devices. This could be used by all classes from Junior Infants to 6th class. Children could make a video recount of their summer holidays, a review of a book that they have read etc.
This app is extremely easy to use and one of the best things is that the children can customise their own prompt cards so the app will also develop literacy skills.

Class Dojo

Description:
This is a great app which can be used as a reward system from Junior Infants to 6th Class. Create your own class and add points as rewards and remove them as sanctions where necessary. This is an easy way to track behaviour and homework and can be used to promote positive behaviour, organisational skills and participation in class. Students can be grouped which is great when using Class Dojo with younger classes.
